Not every legal question is headed for a courtroom or a signature page. Institutions, businesses, development partners, and policymakers regularly commission research and consultancy work that sits entirely outside a transaction or dispute — funded research projects, policy studies, and technical assistance assignments that need rigorous legal grounding of their own. That is the work of our research and consultancy practice.

Some of our team members are educated at leading law schools in both Kenya and Hong Kong, bringing a comparative, cross-jurisdictional perspective that few practices in Nairobi can offer — the ability to analyse a question not just from a Kenyan standpoint, but with a sense of how another legal system would approach the same problem.

We undertake funded research projects and consultancy assignments for institutions, development partners, and policymakers, producing legal analysis and opinions that meet the rigour a commissioned project demands. Where a project calls for comparison with how another jurisdiction has approached the same question, we bring that comparative perspective to the work.

We also advise institutions directly on governance and regulatory design, and provide training and capacity building for organisations that need to better understand the legal framework they operate within — work that is often commissioned as a discrete research project in its own right, rather than tied to a specific dispute or transaction.
